  • This study was funded by the Azad and Yasmin Shamji Family and sponsored by the VGH-UBC Hospital Foundation. It examined the impact of a peer support model in improving and sustaining glycemic control and diabetes distress. We recruited 114 South Asian adults with type 2 diabetes who completed a 12-month intervention that started with 3 months of weekly diabetes self-management education session delivered by a diabetes educator and peer leader followed by 9 months of weekly self-management support session delivered by a peer leader.
